Fire Stopping Installation in Hampshire, West Sussex and the South Coast
Every time a pipe, cable, duct or other service is run through a fire compartment wall or floor, a breach is created in the building's passive fire protection. Fire stopping is the process of sealing those breaches using products specifically tested and certified to restore the fire resistance of the construction element at the penetration point. Without correct fire stopping, a fire can bypass even the most robust compartmentation system within minutes.
This service is delivered through our specialist sister company, Aran Fire Protection - FIRAS-certified passive fire protection specialists with over 25 years of experience. Arundel Firecare, Security & Electrical remains your single point of contact throughout.

Fire Stopping Services - Hampshire and West Sussex
Fire stopping is one of the most commonly deficient areas of passive fire protection in UK buildings. Electrical rewires, plumbing works, data cabling and HVAC installations all create penetrations in compartment walls and floors. These penetrations are routinely left unsealed or sealed with incorrect, non-rated products. A compartmentation survey will identify the extent of the problem; our fire stopping installation service remedies it.
Penetration seals are fire stopping products installed around a service penetration in a fire compartment wall or floor. The correct seal product depends on the type of service passing through (metallic pipe, plastic pipe, cable, cable tray, duct), the construction material of the wall or floor, and the fire resistance period required. Common products include:
- Intumescent pipe collars and wraps: fitted around plastic pipes. When exposed to heat, the intumescent material expands, crushing the softening plastic pipe and sealing the penetration.
- Intumescent sealants and mortars: used to seal around metallic pipes, cables and cable trays. Applied into the annular gap around the service and the surrounding opening.
- Pillows and boards: used for larger penetrations or where a removable seal is required for ongoing service access. Must be installed correctly to the manufacturer's specification.
Product selection, correct specification and installation to the manufacturer's instructions are all critical - a product installed incorrectly provides no fire stopping value regardless of its certification.
Linear gap seals address the gaps that occur at junctions between fire-resistant construction elements - where a partition meets a ceiling, where two fire walls meet or at expansion joints. These gaps must be sealed with intumescent or fire-rated products to maintain the continuity of the compartmentation line.
Fire stopping works are typically identified through a compartmentation survey or fire risk assessment and form part of a wider passive fire protection remedial works programme. We provide the full service - survey, specification of the correct products, installation by FIRAS-certified engineers and post-works certification confirming the remediation has been completed correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fire stopping is the installation of certified fire-rated products to seal service penetrations in fire compartment walls and floors - where pipes, cables, ducts and other services pass through. The purpose is to maintain the fire resistance of the wall or floor at the point of penetration, preventing fire and smoke from spreading through the breach.
